This qualification reflects the role of pathology collectors. Workers in this role follow known routines and procedures, taking responsibility for their own work under general supervision. They combine communication, customer service and technical skills, and use discretion and judgment to adapt and transfer their skills to different situations.

The volume of learning for a Certificate III is 1200 – 2400.     The amount of learning for this course is 1200 hours, comprising of:

• Face-to-face delivery (378.5 hours)
• Supervised practical skills development (85.5 hours)
• Unsupervised study (698 hours)
• Industry work placement (38 hours)

The course is conducted over a period of 32 weeks including term breaks on a full-time basis.

After achieving HLT37215 Certificate III in Pathology Collection, students may continue their studies by enrolling in the following course:

• HLT51612 Diploma of Nursing (Enrolled-Division 2 nursing)

To ensure this course is an appropriate learning opportunity, individuals would need to demonstrate a capacity to undertake study at the Certificate III level, this can be demonstrated via the following:

Successful completion of Year 11 or the equivalent level of study or mature aged entry. The definition of a mature aged for entry purposes is a person over 21 years of age that hasn’t been studying at either year 12 level or university/TAFE level for at least 7 years.
